December Guide: Shop Local at these upcoming Local Markets and Events!

Plenty of opportunities to Shop Local and Support Local in December with Artist Markets, Holiday Markets, Farmers Markets, and more! Many have Live entertainment, Music, Food, Drink, and curated vintage selections as well. Some even have free yoga, and yard games. A couple in December will even have SNOW! Whether you’re holiday shopping or just regular shopping, you can find all kinds of unique and useful items at local Houston markets and events. Many of these take place year-round!

DECEMBER 1st (Saturday):

* AG Flea – Holiday Market, 313 W 19th St. 10am-5pm. A free curated outdoor market. Sip mimosas and shop local vendors for handmade, one-of-a-kind, artisan goods and foods.

* City Acre Holiday Market at City Acre Brewing Co. (3418 Topping St) 11am – 5pm. Annual Weihnachtsmarkt (German for holiday market). There will be local artisans with handcrafted goods, treats to enjoy (spiced nuts and mulled wine and more) and a holiday pickle ornament hunt taking place across the entire property. All ages and kid friendly.

* Craftidote Holiday Market (729 Studewood St) 12-5pm. Around 40 vendors will be selling handmade locally made goods. There will also be good food, coffee and a free kids craft area. Serena and Andy will be serving up freshly made Empanadas. Andrew Lienhard and friends will be playing jazz on the patio.

* Eleanora’s Market (2120 Ella Blvd) 9am-1pm every Saturday. Farmers, food-makers, artisans and music. If you’re interested in vending, click here.  On December 1st, there will be live music with singer-songwriter Allison Bishop.

* First Saturday Arts Market, 530 W 19th St. 11am-6pm. Monthly outdoor fine arts event featuring the works of dozens of visual artists: paintings, sculpture, photography, jewelry and handcrafted items. On Dec 1st there will be Live Music from with Black Water Roll, the vocal duo Ryan Tierney and Laura Stegall.

* Flea by Night presented by Green Mountain Energy Company at Discovery Green (1500 McKinney) 6-10pm.  Featuring an array of artful kitsch, vintage items, recycled and repurposed items and collectibles, and crafts by local artisans and designers.


* Heights Epicurean Market (1245 Heights Blvd) 8:30am-1:30pm. Monthly market showcasing artisan food, sustainable, seasonal produce, plants, art, and live music with a block party, family-friendly atmosphere. Handmade, hand-sewn, crochet and knit items, natural soaps, skin care products, fine art, glass art, ceramics, paintings furniture, candles, home decor and more.

* Holiday in the Park with Pop Shop America at Market Square Park (301 Milam St) 10am-5pm. Shop small at an outdoor market in the heart of downtown Houston. There will be 30+ vendors with locally designed goods, plus holiday crafting with Pop Shop America. Photo Booths + Live Music + Food + Drinks + More!

* Levy Park Holiday Festival at Levy Park (3801 Eastside). This will take place Saturday and Sunday, December 1st and 2nd from 12-5pm. In addition to a market with numerous local vendors, there will be Music, a DIY Craft Station, a Photo Booth, and more.

* Saturday Nights at the Blue Field Market – Downtown Houston (2619 Polk St) takes place every Saturday from 6-10pm. They have local vendors with a range including handmade jewelry, clothing, home goods, and gourmet foods. There are also food trucks, yard games, free open play sand volleyball, and free yoga! Live music as well. Fun for all ages! Vendor information here.

* STRUTitup Holiday Party (5301 Polk Street #18a) 10pm-2am. Free entry! “Dress to the nines, whatever that means to you! Regardless of what you wear, or how you wear it, STRUT welcomes you.” Music with En Funque. Food Truck. Photo-booth. Plus Specially Commissioned Clothing Pieces up for auction, Clothing for Sale, and Special Displays. All are welcome!

* Tamale Festival Houston at Guadalupe Plaza Park (2311 Runnels) 12-8pm. Stock up on locally made tamales, shop local vendors, and enjoy local entertainment. Admission on the day of will be $10. Children 12 and under are free. Here’s the website.

* Under the Radar Holiday Market at Under the Radar Brewery (1506 Truxillo St) 4-9pm. Local Market that takes place every 1st Saturday of the month! Family friendly and pet friendly. A variety of one of a kind art, hand crafted jewelry & accessories, hand made & vegan products, succulent art, graphics & tees from local designers, and rare vintage pieces from local curators!

* Urban Harvest Farmers’ Market (2752 Buffalo Speedway) is open every Saturday year-round rain or shine from 8am-12pm. Featuring over 60 vendors!

DECEMBER 2nd (Sunday):

* East End Farmers Market (2800 Navigation Blvd) takes place every Sunday 10 am till 2 pm with 7 local farms and plenty of local small businesses.

* Girl Crush Holiday Market at The Studio HTX (2001 Commerce St) 11am-4pm. Part market. Part workshop. All women.

* Got Vintage Market Fall 2018 at ARKA ART (4715 Main Street # E) 1-6pm. Shop from 15+ vintage collectors men and women’s clothing, accessories, and home goods. Score some amazing vintage gems and support local vendors. Enjoy complimentary drink by Austin Eastciders. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP for complimentary drink tickets.

* Jingle All the Way Day! at Saint Arnold Brewing Company (2000 Lyons Ave), 11am-4pm. Free entry! A holiday market showcasing the alternative culture of Houston and the work of local artists and makers. Local alternative businesses such as Cactus Music and Reserve Supply will also be present, plus special guest printmaker Sean Starwars! Hosted by Burning Bones Press, enjoy a day of art, music, cheer, commemorative pint glass and of course beer.

* Levy Park Holiday Festival at Levy Park (3801 Eastside) 12-5pm. In addition to a Market with numerous Local Vendors, there will be Music, a DIY Craft Station, Photo Booth, and more.

* 2ND ANNUAL FUGLY X-MAS SWEATER PARTY!! (4009 Polk St) 12pm-6pm. Monthly Vintage, Art, and Makers Market located in the east end of Houston. Rare fun and quirky vintage finds, unique art from local artists, handmade and artisan products. Sponsored by Karbach Brewing Co. Awesome selection of ugly vintage sweaters on hand as well.

* DECEMBER 4th (Tuesday):

* Rice University Farmers Market (5600 Greenbriar) 3:30-6:30pm every Tuesday year-round, rain or shine. Free entry and free parking! DECEMBER12th (Wednesday):

* Aurora Holiday Party + Raffle at Aurora Picture Show (2442 Bartlett St) 7:30pm-10pm. Annual holiday party, featuring a raffle, a silent auction of small works by local artists, beverages provided by Saint Arnold and Double Trouble, light bites provided by Phoenicia Specialty Foods, vintage holiday TV projections, and music provided by DJ Peter Lucas.

DECEMBER 7th (Friday):

* Holler Brewing Co Holiday Market at Holler Brewing Co. (2206 Edwards St) 6-10pm. Vintage and Artist market held the last Friday of every month. Market vendors set up in the breezeway with an assortment of original art, handmade jewelry, vegan bath & body products, local produce / eats, vintage tees and accessories, and more!


* Holiday on 19th Street at Shop Heights 19th Street (19th Street Between Shepherd and Yale) 6-10pm. Live music, in-store features and specials, cocktails, holiday shopping and REAL SNOW!!

* Thorn & Moon Magickal Market – Holiday Bazaar & Krampus Karnival at Avant Garden (411 Westheimer) 7pm-12am. Featuring DJs/performers, local artists, artisan vendors, and more!

* Where the Wild Things Art: Children’s Book Art Show + Book Fair at Insomnia Gallery (708 Telephone Rd) 7-11pm. Over 30 Houston artists paying homage and showcasing their work in a Book Fair type environment. BRING SOME OLD BOOKS! They will be donated to an area charity organization to get books in the hands of kids in need. All ages welcome! Dog friendly as well. The event will be sponsored by Eureka Heights Brew Co and there will be a cocktail option as well.

DECEMBER 8th (Saturday):

* BCO Holiday Farmers Market Tour by Bike hosted by Bayou City Outdoors. Meet up at Onion Creek Cafe (3106 White Oak Dr) at 8:30am. The ride will go from 9am to noon stopping along the way to shop at local farmer’s markets. This event is free for members and non-members alike. Feel free to decorate yourself or bike or add jingle.

* The Market at Sawyer Yards (1502 Sawyer St) 11am-5pm. Curated market in which the maker is the seller, with a focus on folk art and artisan crafts. Packaged specialty foods as well. Live Music: Grifters & Shills w/ Tommy Lewis. The market coincides with 2nd Saturday Open Studios, when artists from The Silos at Sawyer Yards, Winter, Spring, Summer and Silver Street Studios, open their studios to the public. Free entry!

* 14th Annual Heights Holiday Market (935 Harvard St) 11am-5pm. Holiday Market in the heart of the Houston Heights. Area artisans and crafts people come together to sell their wares at this annual handmade market.


DECEMBER 9th (Sunday)

* Beers & Cheers Holiday Market : Saint Arnold Brewing Co (2000 Lyons Ave) 11am-4pm. SHOP LOCAL Market held monthly. Always free to attend. Lot of local artists and vendors. Family friendly event. Gift wrapping station will be set up. Music with DJ GONZ and Jonathan Gonzalez.

* East End Farmers Market (2800 Navigation Blvd) takes place every Sunday 10 am till 2 pm with 7 local farms and plenty of local small businesses.

* Second Sunday Arts Market in the Yard at Dan Electros (1031 East 24th St) 3-8pm.

* The Conscious Market- Houston at Insomnia Gallery (708 Telephone Rd) 1-5pm. Holistic and sustainable market featuring vegan Food, yoga, and more. Featuring vendors, artists, and small businesses that work to make and source consciously created art, clothing, products, and food. This is an indoor and outdoor market.

December 11th will be their Holiday Market, and in addition to their regular vendors for fresh local produce and prepared  foods, they will have free East West boba, peppermint popsicles, Saint Arnold’s beer, and a photo booth with Santa. DECEMBER 15th (Saturday):

* Heights Mercantile Holiday Market at Heights Mercantile (711 Heights Blvd) 11am-6pm. Vendor popup on the promenade.

DECEMBER 16th (Sunday):

* A Christmas Story Art Market: Karbach Brewing Co (2032 Karbach St) 12-6pm. Holiday SHOP LOCAL Market in the beirgarten with many local artist & vendors. Ugly Christmas sweaters will be on hand, puppy portraits will be an option, and a gift wrapping station will be set up. After the market there will be a screening of the movie A Christmas Story at sundown. (Bring your own chair for the movie.)

* East End Farmers Market (2800 Navigation Blvd) takes place every Sunday 10 am till 2 pm with 7 local farms and plenty of local small businesses.

* Oops it’s almost It’s Almost Christmas Market at Avant Garden (411 Westheimer) from 12-6pm. Groovy market with amazing local artists and vendors! Hosted by DOBO.

* Punk Rock Garage Sale: Holiday Edition with Deep End Records and Insomnia Gallery (708 Telephone Rd) 1-6pm. 20 + individual vendors will be offering up music equipment, toys, zines, DVDs and VHS, albums and cassettes, clothing, and all kinds of weird stuff! Eureka Heights will be providing free beer for all entrants while it lasts, and there will be some cocktails too! Plus food truck, DJ, and more. This unique show features ART AT ONLY $20 and ready to take home the same night. All art will be ORIGINAL pieces or unique limited edition prints (labeled accordingly).

* La Sopa Masquerade Party at Avant Garden (411 Westheimer) 9pm-2am. Fascinating Vendors, Captivating performances, Groovy Grooves, and so much more. FREE ENTRY! Masks will be sold at the event for $5 each. 21+
