Reopening / Still Shut Down Updates

Texas Order

Governor Greg Abbott’s order on May 1st included the following places that may reopen if they choose:

* Restaurants, retail stores, and movie theaters limited to 25% occupancy.

* Museums and libraries limited to 25% capacity.
** Houston Public Library has decided to remain closed through May 31st, but they are offering more online access and temporary cards online. You can find more details here.
** Houston Museums are still closed. The soonest one currently scheduled to open is Museum of Natural Science on May 15th.

* Places of worship with appropriate distancing practices.

* Outdoor sporting activities with less than 4 participants playing at a time.

Harris County

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s Stay Home, Work Safe Order was amended on May 1st to include the following:

“Individuals may go to public parks and open outdoor recreation areas. Individuals may engage in outdoor sports provided that the sports do not include contact with other participants and involve no more than four participants playing the sport at the same time.

Gyms, fitness centers, public swimming pools, interactive amusement venues and other facilities that are used or intended to be used for any type of training, martial arts, sport or recreation shall remain closed pursuant to Executive Order GA-18. Indoor sports areas may not open. Batting cages, workout areas, and indoor fields will be treated like gyms and are not authorized to be open.

Barbers, hair salons, nail salons, cosmetology services, spas, massage businesses, tattoo studios, piercing studios, concert halls, live performance theaters, arenas, stadiums, game rooms, bowling alleys, arcades, and bingo halls shall remain closed.

Bars may not reopen for on-premises service. The use of drive-through, pickup, or delivery options for food and drinks remains permitted, and highly encouraged, throughout the limited duration of this order.”
